About Us

The MOB is open to everyone between the ages of 8 and 18. It is the junior section of the Retford Operatic Society, and was formed in 1991. There is no formal audition. The children are expected to work hard in rehearsals; but if they enjoy singing, that should be easy! The MOB perform a wide variety of music in concerts, shows and festivals. The MOB are a great group of young people who are very committed to keeping the standard of their performances high.
AND Membership only costs £2 a week!

The MOB is open to anyone, and we are always looking for new members, especially in the run up to a new show.
If you want to come and join in call Tony Williams on 01777 701105.

Rehearsals

We usually rehearse every Sunday between 4.00pm and 6.00pm with a short break when children are supervised by Country Council Registered Chaperones who are parents of the MOBsters. Any parent is welcome to become a Registered Chaperone and help supervise the MOBsters. Chaperones are present at every rehearsal. Children are not to leave the building during rehearsal or break. Mobsters are expected to spend some time at home learning their words. The MOB are proud of the fact that all performances are sung from memory. There may be times that the rehearsal time may change depending upon the schedule of the Musical Director, The Retford Operatic Society, or in the run up to a show.

Committee

MOB is run and supported by the parents of the children. The committee elected at the annual AGM, is open to any parent who wishes to take part, decides which activities the children should take part in and leads the rest of the parents in organising shows, concerts and other events. MOB parents also organise fundraising events to raise money for music, costumes, props, etc.

The MOB Rep's, also elected at the annual AGM, also form part of the committee, bringing the mobsters views and concerns to discussions.
This years MOB Rep's are Gabriella Williams and Oliver Morton.

Musical Director

Our Musical Director is Roger Dickinson - a well-accomplished and talented musician who the children and parents think a great deal of. As well as teaching the children the music, he advises on repertoire and accompanies them in concerts and shows.

After many years Roger has decided to retire from full time work with the MOB. Click below to read his farewell message.
